OmniPlayer — All-in-One Video Player

Last Updated: June 15, 2026

1. Getting Started

OmniPlayer is a powerful, privacy-focused video player for iOS. It supports local video files, photo library videos, and network-based media with features including subtitle search, DLNA casting, M3U8 downloading, and more.

Supported Video Formats

OmniPlayer supports all formats playable by iOS AVPlayer, including but not limited to:

ℹ️

Some codec support depends on your device's hardware decoding capabilities. iOS natively supports H.264 and HEVC (H.265). MKV and AVI playback uses software decoding and may vary by format.

2. Video Playback

Playing Videos from the Library

1

Open OmniPlayer and browse your video library on the Home tab.

2

Tap any video to start playing it immediately.

3

Use the search bar or sort options (name, date, size) to find specific videos.

Importing Videos from Photo Library

Videos imported from your photo library are referenced in place — OmniPlayer does not duplicate them. To add a photo library video, use the import option from the home screen and grant photo library access when prompted.

Resume Playback

OmniPlayer can remember where you left off in each video. When you reopen a video, you will be prompted to resume from the saved position. You can enable or disable this feature in Settings → Playback Settings → Remember Playback Position.

3. Player Controls

The player interface provides the following controls (tap the screen to show/hide controls):

Top Toolbar

Bottom Control Bar

Lock Screen

Tap the lock icon to lock the player interface, preventing accidental touches. Tap the lock icon again (after a brief delay) to unlock.

Fullscreen

Rotate your device to landscape mode for fullscreen viewing. The player automatically adapts to the screen orientation.

4. Gesture Controls

OmniPlayer supports intuitive gesture controls during video playback. These can be disabled in Settings → Playback Settings → Gesture Controls.

Left Side Gestures (Brightness)

Right Side Gestures (Volume)

Horizontal Gestures (Seek)

Double-Tap

💡

A gesture guide is shown on your first use of the player. You can also access it from the controls overlay.

5. Subtitle Management

Searching and Downloading Subtitles

1

Tap the subtitle icon (CC) in the player control bar.

2

Select "Search Subtitles" — the App will search using the video filename.

3

Browse the results and tap one to download. The subtitle is applied automatically.

Loading External Subtitle Files

You can also load subtitle files (.srt, .ass, .ssa, .vtt) manually. In the subtitle panel, choose "Load External Subtitle" and select the file from your device.

Subtitle Settings

ℹ️

Subtitle search sends your video filename or a file hash to third-party services (assrt.net, OpenSubtitles, SubDB, Subscene). Your video content is never uploaded. See our Privacy Policy for details.

6. Downloading Videos

Adding a Download

1

Go to the Downloads tab.

2

Tap the + button in the bottom-right corner.

3

Enter the video URL (supports direct MP4 links and M3U8 streaming URLs).

4

Tap Download to start. The file will appear in your video library when complete.

M3U8 Downloads (HLS Streaming)

OmniPlayer uses FFmpeg to download and convert M3U8/HLS streams to standard MP4 format. This process runs in the background and may take some time depending on the stream length and your connection speed.

Managing Downloads

💡

Completed downloads appear as videos in your library. You can also find them in the "Completed" tab of the Downloads screen.

7. DLNA Casting

OmniPlayer supports streaming video to DLNA-compatible devices (smart TVs, game consoles, media receivers) on your local network.

How to Cast

1

While playing a video, tap the Cast icon (TV/monitor) in the top toolbar.

2

OmniPlayer will scan your local network for DLNA devices.

3

Select your device from the list. Playback will begin on the selected device.

Casting Controls

Once casting is active, you can control playback (play, pause, seek, adjust volume) from the picker interface. To stop casting and restore playback on your device, tap "Disconnect".

ℹ️

DLNA casting requires your iOS device and the target device to be on the same Wi-Fi network. Casting uses standard UPnP protocols via the CocoaUPnP library.

8. Wi-Fi Upload

You can transfer videos from your computer to OmniPlayer over Wi-Fi without any cable connection.

How to Upload

1

Open OmniPlayer and go to the Profile tab.

2

Tap Wi-Fi Upload to start the local HTTP server.

3

Open the displayed URL (e.g., http://192.168.x.x:xxxx) in a web browser on your computer.

4

Drag and drop video files onto the web page, or use the upload button to select files.

5

Uploaded videos appear in your library automatically.

💡

Make sure your computer and iOS device are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. The server remains active as long as the upload page is open.

9. Privacy Space

Privacy Space lets you hide sensitive videos behind biometric authentication (Face ID / Touch ID) or your device passcode.

Moving a Video to Privacy Space

1

Long-press a video in your library, or tap the ··· menu on a video card.

2

Select "Move to Privacy Space" from the context menu.

3

Authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode.

4

The video is now hidden from the main library. To view it, tap the Privacy Space icon on the home screen and authenticate.

Restoring a Video

Within Privacy Space, tap the ··· menu on a video and select "Remove from Privacy Space". The video returns to your main library.

🔒 Important Security Note

Privacy Space uses logical isolation (not encryption). Video files remain in the app's sandbox. When you delete a video from Privacy Space, the file is permanently removed. OmniPlayer Team cannot access your private content.

10. Picture-in-Picture (PiP)

Picture-in-Picture allows you to watch videos in a small floating window while using other apps.

How to Use PiP

1

During playback, tap the PiP button (overlapping rectangles) in the top toolbar.

2

The video shrinks to a floating window. You can resize and reposition it.

3

Tap the PiP window to show playback controls (play/pause, close, return to full player).

💡

PiP works with the Background Audio feature — audio continues playing even when your screen is locked.

11. Background Audio

OmniPlayer supports background audio playback, allowing you to continue listening to video audio when the app is in the background or the device is locked.

The lock screen displays playback controls and information (video title, progress, artwork). You can play, pause, skip, and seek directly from the lock screen or Control Center.

ℹ️

Background audio playback may consume additional battery. You can disable it from the player controls if desired.

12. Play Queue

The play queue allows you to build a list of videos to play sequentially.

13. Storage Management

You can view and manage the storage space used by OmniPlayer from Profile → Storage Management.

15. Troubleshooting

Video won't play or shows an error

Ensure the video format is supported by iOS. Try restarting the app or your device. If the file is corrupted, try re-downloading or re-importing it.

Subtitles are not syncing with the video

Use the Subtitle Delay adjustment in the subtitle panel to shift timing forward or backward by up to ±10 seconds. You can also search for a different subtitle file with better synchronization.

Download keeps failing or is stuck

Check your internet connection and ensure you have enough free storage space. For M3U8 downloads, verify that the stream URL is valid and accessible. Try pausing and resuming the download, or cancel and restart it.

DLNA casting cannot find any devices

Make sure your iOS device and the target device are on the same Wi-Fi network. Check that the target device supports DLNA/UPnP and is powered on. Some devices may need a few seconds to appear.

Wi-Fi Upload page is not loading

Verify that your computer and iOS device are on the same Wi-Fi network. Try refreshing the browser page or restarting the upload server from the Profile tab. Some corporate or public networks may block local connections.

App is using too much storage

Go to Profile → Storage Management to view your storage usage. Clear the cache and remove any downloaded videos you no longer need. Downloaded M3U8 conversions can be particularly large.

Cannot authenticate into Privacy Space

Ensure Face ID or Touch ID is set up on your device in Settings → Face ID & Passcode (or Touch ID & Passcode). OmniPlayer uses the system's biometric authentication and cannot bypass it.

Background audio stops unexpectedly

Check that your device is not in Low Power Mode, which can interrupt background tasks. Also ensure that the app has background audio enabled — this is set automatically on first launch.
